The Junior League of Raleigh, Inc. (JLR) and Visual Art Exchange (VAE) present the Town & Country juried art exhibition, October 1-5, 2008.
Town & Country is a special feature of the JLR’s
A Shopping SPREE!. Over $1000 in prizes will be awarded. The application fee is $20. Entry deadline: August 1, 2008.
Town & Country will be juried by Rory Parnell, Bob Rankin, and Kathleen Reider.
About the jurors
JLR and VAE are excited to present three distinguished Raleigh art professionals as jurors for this year’s exhibition. Beyond their many individual accomplishments, Rory Parnell, Bob Rankin, and Kathleen Rieder represented North Carolina for the arts at the 200th anniversary of the Friendship agreement between the United States and Morocco, which took place in Morocco in 1987.
Rory Parnell: Rory Parnell is co-owner of The Collectors Gallery and the Long View Gallery in Raleigh. As a gallery owner, arts advocate and art patron for more than 20 years, Rory has served on numerous non-profit boards and visual arts panels. In 2007, the City of Raleigh recognized Rory’s service by awarding her a Raleigh Medal of Arts.
Bob Rankin: Bob Rankin is an internationally recognized artist and winner of a Raleigh Medal of Arts. His work has been exhibited throughout North Carolina as well as in New York, Colorado, Florida and Marrakech, Morocco.
Kathleen Rieder: Kathleen Rieder is an adjunct Associate Professor at The North Carolina State University (NCSU) College of Design in the Department of Art & Design and a committed participant in NCSU College of Design's International programs especially in Ghana and the Czech Republic.
Eligibility
Open to all 2D artwork by living Carolina artists exploring this year’s theme of "Town & Country." Work must measure between 12" x 12" and 24" x 36" with retail price of $100-$750. All work must be original, have been completed in the last two years, and be available for sale. Work must be properly prepared for installation. All work must be dry and stable. JLR reserves the right to exclude any work that does meet these standards.
Commission & Sales
A 40% commission on all art sales will go to the Junior League of Raleigh.

About Visual Art Exchange
Visual Art Exchange (VAE) is the oldest private non-profit visual arts organization in Raleigh. VAE is dedicated to serving emerging artists and enriching the cultural environment of our community. VAE offers monthly exhibits, operates a retail gallery, conducts an annual student exhibition and scholarship competition, provides arts education and development opportunities and installs exhibits in public venues throughout the community that are enjoyed by thousands of people. VAE also produces the Raleigh Street Painting Festival each fall and has opening receptions on the First Friday of each month that are free and open to the public.
